The Micro Wedding: A Trend With Staying Power

What is a Micro Wedding?

You may have heard many variations of this trending title when it comes to weddings these days - “micro;” “mini-mony;” “intimate wedding;” among others.   We call it a micro wedding, and it is a step between an elopement and your average semi-formal event for over 150 guests.  An elopement is typically a ceremony only, more private with just the couple or less than 10 people. A micro wedding is still a more intimate affair generally with 30-50 guests, but will generally include more elements you’d expect from a traditional wedding.   Think of it as a ceremony with an elevated cocktail hour and/or dinner party, with toasts and a cake cutting.

Is it right for you?

With restrictions and concerns surrounding social gatherings amidst the current health crisis, micro weddings and elopements are gaining popularity, though they aren’t new to the scene. While this may not be right for every couple, there is SO much we love about this style event. Don’t get us wrong- the grand affair for 200+ under a high peak tent on a private estate with crowded dance floor and 10 piece band will continue to be popular - and we’re here for it (when things are safe again). There is something special about a micro wedding, and the more intimate setting shared with select special guests surrounding, and honing in on what the celebration is really about.

Here are reasons you might find them appealing too. . .

  •  Guest Interaction + Experience

Still the BIG day, just a smaller scale.   A micro style wedding brings together a more intimate crew.  Imagine getting to celebrate this occasion with your closest family and nearest and dearest friends. Wedding day will fly by, and smaller crowd allows you maximize your time to interact, chat and enjoy the festivities with each of your VIPs- and one another -in the moment. While a higher guest count allows for a big roaring party, you might not get to get that level of QT and interaction with your favorites before it’s time for your exit.

  • Budget Flexibility

With a micro style event you can get more bang for your buck.  Think about it – every head in your guest count increases your total expense. Your dollars will stretch a lot farther and allow you to splurge more on the extra’s to enhance your guests’ (and your own) experience. You get to include more of the things that might normally get scratched from plans when budgeting for hundreds of guests. Yes, all the BELLES + WHISTLES!

  •  Design Enhancement

The lower guest count and more flexible budget  leave room for implementing macro style, more intricate details and design elements that really reflect your personalities from the invitation suite, to the creativity of your menu, dinner table, floral design and more.
